Good performance at ADCC
Gunnar had a good run at the ADCC 2011. He was very light in the -88kg weight class (weighted in only 82kg in his clothes and shoes) and had some very tough battles. In his first match Gunnar faced Marko Helen, the present and two fold European Champion and multiple Finnish champion. After a double overtime Gunnar won on points, 5-0. Gunnar then ran into Andre Galvao and lost a very tough and close battle on points scored in the last 20 second. Andre Galvao then went on to win the weight class and the absolute. Gunnar was invited to compete in the absolute and met the Brazilian and American champion and former world champion Bruno Frazzato in the first match. Gunnar defeated Frazzato very convincingly on points. Gunnar the met the six fold world champion and two fold ADCC champion Alexandre "Xande" Riberio and lost a very close match on one sweep (2 points). Gunnar had Xande in a pretty tight guillotine choke for a while but the very experience grappler work his way out of it. Gunnar can be very proud of his performance at the ADCC 2011 and plans on being there again in two years. In the interview below Gunnar speaks of his experience at the ADCC 2011:
